The Mitsubishi club again provides valued logistical support for another year.

Club members provide much appreciated transport and support for the Oxfam teams at check point 4 out from Jollies Lookout. Members make use of their 4wd capabilities to transport any participant walker that is unable to continue up the hill track to a warm station at the Lookout where they can be looked after and picked up by their support crew .

2017 4WD Clubs of Queensland  - Annual Fraser Island Clean Up

In previous years, the event has attracted around 400 volunteers (spanning 230+ vehicle and 19 four wheel drive clubs across the state) who have banded together to collect general rubbish and flotsam and jetsam washed ashore by the tides and the weather systems that have hit the Queensland Coastline. Volunteers collected plastic such as netting, bottles, fish fluoro tubes and incredibly, thousands of toothbrushes during the three-day-long event. Approximately 50 cubic metres of rubbish (985 garbage bags) has been collected during the weekend and the difference on the eastern beach alone, was astounding. This community service event is reliant upon volunteers giving up their own time in the support of this cause with the backing of corporate sponsorship.

The Mitsubishi Club will participate in the Fraser Island Cleanup once again this year.

The Club "Adopt -A-Track" program through 4WD Qld and QPWS

Where  - Glen Rock State Forest (out from Gatton).

Glen Rock is certainly an attractive part of the world with some rugged gorges, ridges, high plateaus and a creek running in between. The camp area is very pleasant. Glen Rock suffered significant damage during the floods earlier this year and is just now just coming back on board as a camping destination. The problem for the rangers is lack of time and money. That’s where a club like ours comes into the picture. The club has begun assisting by participating in new planting in the camp grounds and expects to be involved in lantana management (no spraying) and repair of old cattle yards (it was a private property). In return we can have privileged access to areas of interest to 4 Wheel drivers which are off limits to the public.

Background

In April 2011, the 4WD QLD Association C.A.R.E. Subcommittee signed a Memorandum of Understanding with NPRSR [previously QPWS] which is a platform allowing for a closer relationship between 4WD Qld affiliated Clubs and NPRSR. At the core of this MoU is the ability of clubs to adopt tracks or areas within the NPRSR estate. Talks are currently under way to extend this MoU to areas licensed to HQ Plantations Queensland. Clubs maintaining a closer relationship with all public land manager will allow for wider access to these areas for clubs.

See the Trip Calendar and the Forum for planned visits. See the map of Glen Rock here

The Club Magazine Diamond Torque moves to on-line distribution.

To contain costs, the club is now encouraging more of our readers to receive their copies on line . You can find  a button down this page which readers can use to get access to the current edition in our Flip book format. Look at your emails for a reminder of the password if you need to.

A full record of the last 6 years of the magazine is also available in PDF form on the Forum for those who wish to look back at them. An almanac of the trip reports from those copies is also reprinted on this site under the TRIP REPORTS Reports tab.

  The Club Photo Competition

The club has run a very successful Photographic Competition. All entries are in, the judging has been completed and prizes awarded. If you click on the Gallery tab on the menu bar above  you will shown a page presenting the results of the competition.  I think you will agree that the standard is excellent and there are plenty of good shots that can now be used for the clubs publicity purposes.  Together they portray very well the range of club activities and the travel and social opportunities that the club provides. Hopefully the competition will become a regular event.

By the way, access to the Zen Gallery is now via the same page.

The Club has a very active FaceBook
